(NLDO) – The young generation of Gen Z in Vietnam focuses a lot on sustainability, believes in the green economy and always has thoughts and solutions to come up with initiatives
This is a rather interesting revelation from Mr. Binu Jaco, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, at the talk show “Green Growth – Global Trend, the inevitable choice” recently organized by the Government Electronic Information Portal.
According to Mr. Binu Jaco, currently nearly 95% of packaging of enterprises in Vietnam has been designed to be recyclable. However, Nestlé is still not satisfied with that result, and wants to find ways to increase the recycling rate.
Notably, he said that over the past 30 years, when working in Vietnam, Nestlé has recruited and gathered the young generation, the talented people of Generation Z.
“Generation Z focuses a lot on sustainability. They believe in the green economy and they also have experience and knowledge. They think differently and come up with solutions. I think this is very important. Every year, we train more than 120,000 young people,” he said.
For sustainable development, Mr. Binu Jaco believes that it is necessary to educate and change consumer awareness. For example, water packaging is mostly made from recycled materials, but consumers mostly think that discarded materials can only be washed and reused, but that is not the case. To use recycled materials, businesses must invest more.
Therefore, Vietnam needs to educate and train, share, and raise consumer awareness so that they understand and support businesses.
Mr. Le Viet Anh, Director – Director of the Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Planning and Investment, also pointed out that businesses still face many difficulties in determining which preferential mechanisms they are entitled to from the Government when converting to green.
Accordingly, the Government needs to have a system to classify economic activities, businesses, and investment projects that are identified as green. On that basis, designing mechanisms and policies with mutual benefits and orientations so that businesses benefit from such policies will make positive contributions to the economy and society.
Along with that, businesses also need to learn more about the policies that the State is giving incentives for green development and growth.
Notably, Mr. Viet Anh also mentioned the phrase “greenwashing”. Many businesses are currently implementing the process of environmental and green growth certifications and certificates incorrectly.
Accordingly, in the coming time, state management agencies will have to determine the system and policy mechanism to have clear rewards and penalties, that is, incentives for businesses that do business properly and sanctions for businesses that do not do business properly.
“This requires the coordination of many sectors and fields so as not to miss out on businesses that deserve incentives as well as not to miss out on businesses that are subject to strict sanctions from our legal policy system as well as public opinion” – Mr. Viet Anh emphasized.
